2018 PETITE SIRAH - Red Hills, Lake County
Aged for 18 months in Hungarian oak barrels, 40% new, this classic example of Petite Sirah (with a healthy 15% addition of Zinfandel) opens beautifully with deep, dark aromas of blackberry, black cherry, plum and notes of elegant wild licorice. Matching fruit continues on the palate with polished, juicy tannins. There's wonderful depth of blueberry laced with bark and black mushrooms. Subtle notes of graphite minerality lay just underneath and a wisp of dustiness gives way to a lingering finish softened by vanilla cola. Decant it or even aerate it for full enjoyment. Drinkable now but will benefit from 3-5 years in your cellar.
